Regular gasoline in Florida cost $3.97 a gallon the week of October 5, 2026, against a weekly record of $4.85 (June 13, 2022) and $1.44 in the first week on record, May 26, 2003. Every week since, from U.S. Energy Information Administration data, at the pump and in constant 2025 dollars (CPI-U).

Analysis
Florida's record: storms, a tax holiday, and a widening discount
When the EIA began publishing weekly Florida prices in May 2003, the state tracked the national average closely: its yearly average was within 3¢ of the U.S. figure in every year through 2009. Since 2010 it has been below the national average every year, by 12¢ to 23¢ in most years from 2015 on. The largest gap was in 2022, at 23¢.
Part of 2022’s gap came from a state tax holiday. Florida suspended 25.3¢ of its gasoline tax for October 1–31, 2022. In the week of October 3, Florida averaged $3.12 against a U.S. average of $3.78, 66.2¢ below, the widest gap in its series. When the tax returned on November 1, Florida’s average rose from $3.22 (week of October 31) to $3.41 (week of November 7), while the U.S. average rose 5.4¢.
Hurricanes appear as short, sharp increases. In the week of September 4, 2017, Florida rose 39.6¢ to $2.70, more than the 28.0¢ national increase that week.
Florida’s record weekly average is $4.85, in the week of June 13, 2022, below the national record of $5.01 set the same week. The 2008 peak was $4.06 in the week of July 7, and the largest one-week decline in the series, 33.9¢, came in the week of October 20, 2008, during the collapse in prices that fall. The 2020 low was $1.74 in the week of May 11. In 2026, Florida rose 62.6¢ in the week of March 9, its largest one-week increase, and peaked at $4.31 in the week of May 11, below the U.S. average of $4.50 that week.
