Gas Prices in Florida Today

In the EIA’s July 2026 (revised August 2026) table of motor fuel taxes, Florida’s state taxes and fees on gasoline total 40.1¢ a gallon, the 12th-highest of the 50 states and D.C. The 51-jurisdiction average is 33.8¢, and the federal tax adds 18.4¢ everywhere. For 2026 the EIA counts Florida’s excise and sales taxes on gasoline together, along with several small environmental and inspection fees. Counties can add local option taxes above the statewide minimum, which the EIA figure does not include.

Florida has no refineries and no major pipeline connection to the Gulf Coast refining center. According to the EIA, the state is “almost entirely supplied by marine movements”: tankers and barges carry gasoline, mostly from Texas and Louisiana refineries, to terminals at Tampa, Port Everglades, Port Canaveral, and Jacksonville, and trucks distribute it from there. That makes Florida’s supply sensitive to shipping disruptions and to hurricanes that affect either the Gulf Coast refineries or the Florida ports.

Florida has no reformulated-gasoline areas; the EIA reports only conventional gasoline for the state.

Florida’s seasonal swing is the smallest of the nine weekly states. Averaged over 2004–2025, January is 7.0% below the year’s average and June is 4.7% above, a range of about 12 points. The June-to-November hurricane season overlaps the summer-to-fall decline seen elsewhere, and some of the largest weekly increases in Florida’s record came during storms, including a 39.6¢ rise in the week of September 4, 2017, after Hurricane Harvey shut Gulf Coast refineries and as Hurricane Irma approached Florida.

Over the full weekly series, Florida has been below the U.S. average in about 76 percent of weeks, and below it in every calendar year since 2010.

Florida's standing among the 50 states and D.C. reached its cheapest mark in 1977. In 2000 it was 2nd-cheapest, at $1.37. Its least favourable ranking was 27th-cheapest (23rd-most-expensive) in 1982, the first of four years, 1982–1985, when its annual average sat above the U.S. average.

The other ranks on the sheet: 13th-cheapest in 1970 at $0.35, 19th-cheapest in 1980 at $1.23, 9th-cheapest in 1990 at $1.11, 8th-cheapest in 2010 at $2.63 and 16th-cheapest in 2020 at $2.00. In 2024 Florida was 13th-cheapest, which is 39th-most-expensive, with an average of $3.08.

Against its neighbours in 2024, Florida averaged 13.2¢ above Georgia, the bordering state with the highest 2024 average at $2.95. It averaged 19.4¢ above Alabama, the bordering state with the lowest at $2.89. Both of Florida's 2 bordering states averaged less than Florida that year. Florida's own figure was 20.3¢ below the U.S. average of $3.29.

The highest annual average at the pump was $3.55 in 2022, the same year as the widest gap below the U.S. average, 34.7¢. The highest in constant 2025 dollars was $4.85 in 1981, and the 2024 average in those dollars was $3.17. The EIA weekly series records its highest regular price for Florida at $4.85 in the week of June 13, 2022.
