Summary

US Gas Gauge has no user accounts, no sign-up forms, and no comment system, and it does not ask for your name, email address, or payment details. Information about your visit is collected by Google, which serves advertising (Google AdSense) and measures traffic (Google Analytics) on the site, by our hosting provider’s standard server logs, and, only if you use it, by the trip cost calculator’s route lookup.

Advertising: Google AdSense

The site shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure these ads.

• Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google in Google’s Ads Settings. Traffic measurement: Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets first-party cookies and collects information such as the pages you view, the referring site, your approximate location (derived from your IP address), device type, and browser. We see this only in aggregate reports; we do not use it to identify individual visitors. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or your browser’s cookie settings.

Server logs

Like most websites, the servers that host US Gas Gauge record basic technical information for each request, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested, and the time. These logs are used to operate and secure the site and are not used for advertising.

Trip cost calculator

If you enter a starting point and destination in the trip cost calculator, those place names are sent from our server to OpenStreetMap’s public Nominatim geocoding service and to the OSRM routing service to calculate driving distance. Our server keeps a short technical log of these lookups (the place names entered and the result) to diagnose failures. It does not record your IP address with them. If you type the mileage yourself, nothing is sent. OpenStreetMap’s own privacy practices are described in the OSM Foundation privacy policy.

Cookies and your choices

The site itself does not set cookies of its own for login, preferences, or tracking. The cookies described above are set by Google. You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings; the site’s prices, charts, and articles work without them.

Sharing and sale of information

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information, and we do not receive personal information from Google about individual visitors. Information collected by Google through its advertising and analytics tags is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. We may disclose information if required by law.

Children

The site is a general-audience reference site and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
