Gas Prices in Miami Today

Florida has no oil refineries and no major pipelines connecting it to supply centers, so the state is supplied almost entirely by ship, from Gulf Coast refineries and from imports. South Florida’s gasoline comes through the terminals at Port Everglades, just north of Fort Lauderdale, and moves to stations by truck. No part of Florida is a federal reformulated-gasoline area, and EIA’s Miami series is conventional gasoline.

Florida’s fuel taxes are indexed and reset each January 1. For 2026, gasoline sold in Miami-Dade County carries 22¢ a gallon in state taxes and 19.9¢ in county taxes (the ninth-cent tax, the local option taxes of 6¢ and 3¢, and the State Comprehensive Enhanced Transportation System tax), plus an inspection fee, for a total of about 42¢ a gallon, according to the Florida Department of Revenue.

EIA’s weekly Miami series begins in May 2003. Over that span the metro has averaged 3¢ above the U.S. price and 11¢ above the Florida average, and it has been above the statewide figure in 97% of weeks. Supply by sea ties Miami prices to Gulf Coast conditions: in the week of September 4, 2017, after Hurricane Harvey shut Texas refineries, the Miami price rose 39¢ to $2.87, and Hurricane Irma closed Florida ports days later. The largest weekly increase in the series came in the week of March 9, 2026, after military action that began on February 28 stopped most tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz: 61¢, from $2.88 to $3.50. The series high is $4.87, in the week of June 13, 2022.

The Miami series opened on May 26, 2003 at $1.52 for regular. The lowest weekly price through 2025 came soon after, at $1.50 in the week of July 7, 2003. The highest weekly price was $4.87, in the week of June 13, 2022.

The lowest yearly average was $1.91 in 2004, and the highest was $3.77 in 2022. The average was $3.38 in 2008 and $2.45 in 2009, and the fall in 2009 was 27.5%, the largest fall in the yearly average from the year before. The largest rise came in 2021, when the average rose 38.3% to $2.90.

From 2011 to 2014 the yearly average was $3.62, $3.71, $3.63 and $3.47. The 2015 average was $2.56, the 2016 average was $2.31, and the 2020 average was $2.10.

After 2022 the yearly figures were $3.41 in 2023, $3.26 in 2024 and $2.98 in 2025. Within 2025 the difference between the highest and lowest weekly prices was 41.4¢. The highest week was $3.17, in the week of January 27, 2025, and the lowest was $2.75, in the week of December 29, 2025.
