Gas Prices in Seattle Today

Seattle is supplied mainly by five refineries on Puget Sound, with combined crude capacity of 648,200 barrels a day in EIA’s January 2026 survey: BP’s Cherry Point refinery near Ferndale (238,500), HF Sinclair’s and Marathon’s refineries in Anacortes (145,000 and 119,000), Phillips 66’s Ferndale refinery (105,000) and U.S. Oil’s Tacoma refinery (40,700). The West Coast has no pipeline links to other U.S. refining centers, so outages are covered from inventories or from imports. The Seattle area is not a federal reformulated-gasoline area, and EIA’s Seattle series is conventional gasoline.

Washington’s gasoline tax rose to 55.4¢ a gallon on July 1, 2025, and to 56.5¢ on July 1, 2026. Since January 1, 2023, fuel suppliers have also had to buy emissions allowances under the state’s cap-and-invest program.

EIA’s weekly Seattle series begins in May 2003. Over that span the metro has averaged 46¢ above the U.S. price and 7¢ above the Washington average. The gap to the national average has been wider in recent years: it averaged 60¢ in 2021, 79¢ in 2022, $1.11 in 2023, 99¢ in 2024 and $1.25 in 2025. In the West Coast price run-up of fall 2022, the Seattle price rose 50¢ in the week of October 3, 2022, to $5.37. Seattle’s series high, $5.77 in the week of May 25, 2026, makes it the only one of EIA’s ten metro areas whose record was not set in June 2022.

The lowest weekly regular price in Seattle's series, $1.47, fell in the week of December 22, 2003, months after the series opened at $1.53 on May 26, 2003. At the other end, the week of June 13, 2022 recorded $5.55, the highest weekly price through 2025.

Yearly averages put 2022 at $4.74, the highest, and 2004 at $1.95, the lowest. The 2022 average rose 31.5% from the year before, the largest rise in the yearly average. The largest fall came in 2009, when the average decreased 24.4% to $2.56, after $3.39 in 2008.

Between those points, the yearly average stood at $3.85 in 2012, then $3.68 in 2013 and $3.60 in 2014. In 2015 it was $2.77, and in 2016 it was $2.50. Later readings were $2.87 in 2017, $3.27 in 2018 and $3.29 in 2019, before $2.83 in 2020 and $3.61 in 2021.

After 2022, the yearly average was $4.63 in 2023 and $4.29 in 2024. For 2025 it was $4.34. The 2025 weekly prices ran from $4.00 in the week of January 6, 2025 to $4.68 in the week of September 15, 2025, which is a gap of 67.6¢ between the highest and lowest weeks of that year.

All of these figures are EIA's weekly retail prices for regular gasoline in the Seattle metro area, and each yearly average is the mean of that year's weeks.
