Gas Prices in Cleveland Today

Ohio has four refineries of its own, two in Toledo and one each in Lima and Canton, with combined crude capacity of 606,600 barrels a day in EIA’s January 2026 survey. Cleveland is also part of the Midwest (PADD 2) market supplied by BP’s Whiting, Indiana, refinery, the largest in the Midwest at 435,000 barrels a day. No part of Ohio is a federal reformulated-gasoline area, and EIA’s Cleveland series is conventional gasoline.

Ohio’s motor fuel tax is 38.5¢ a gallon on gasoline, the rate since July 1, 2019, when it rose from 28¢.

EIA’s weekly Cleveland series begins in May 2003. Over that span the metro has averaged 8¢ below the U.S. price and 2¢ above the Ohio statewide average, and it has been above the national figure in about 22% of weeks. Its prices move in larger steps than the national average: since 2003 the average week-to-week change, up or down, has been 8.8¢ in Cleveland and 4.4¢ for the U.S. The largest weekly increase in the series came in the week of May 4, 2026, when the Cleveland price rose 91.5¢, from $3.96 to $4.87, while the U.S. average rose 33¢. That week followed a brief power outage at BP’s Whiting, Indiana, refinery, at a time when crude oil prices were already elevated. The highest weekly price in the series is $5.05, in the week of June 13, 2022.

The lowest weekly regular price through 2025 was $1.36, in the week of June 2, 2003. The yearly averages begin at $1.80 in 2004, the lowest yearly average, and continue with $2.22 in 2005, $2.49 in 2006 and $2.76 in 2007. Cleveland's 2008 average was $3.17, its 2009 average was $2.33, and 2010 came in at $2.75.

Cleveland recorded $3.48 for 2011 and $3.58 for 2012. The 2013 figure was $3.49, and 2014 closed at $3.35. In 2015 the yearly average fell 30.6% to $2.33, the largest fall in the yearly average from the year before. The 2016 average was $2.07, and 2019 came in at $2.51.

For 2020, the yearly average was $2.07. A 40.0% rise in 2021 carried it to $2.90, the largest rise in the yearly average from the year before. The highest yearly average, $3.79, belongs to 2022. Cleveland's 2025 average was $3.01.

Weekly prices within 2025 ran from $2.68 in the week of December 22, 2025, up to $3.29 in the week of August 25, 2025, a spread of 61.0¢ between the lowest and highest weeks of that year.
